Maria Bouri is a pediatrician, graduate of Medical School at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has been trained in pediatric palliative care in the United Kingdom (Diploma in Palliative Medicine, Paediatric Option) at the University of Wales, College of Medicine, (Subject of thesis: Paediatric palliative care: baseline audit of current practice). She also holds a Master of Arts in Medical Humanities received by the University of Wales, Swansea (United Kingdom) (thesis subject Glimpses into their worlds: exploring the suffering of seriously ill and dying children).She has also attended the educational program Working with Physical Illness: A Family Approach at the Tavistock Clinic (Tavistock & Portman NHS, United Kingdom),course assignment theme Systemic thinking and applications of paediatric palliative care.
In 2017, she supported her doctoral thesis (Doctor of Philosophy) at the Medical School at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (PhD subject: Health professionals' education in pediatric palliative care (www.didaktorika.gr/eadd/handle/10442/42190).  
 
Professional positions
Since 2001, she works in primary health care for children and families, including children with incurable conditions (Greek National Primary Health Care System)
2010-13: Organization and Medical Director of the first Pediatric Palliative Home care service in Greek, established by the non governmental organization Merimna.
